K-YES Programme Equips Over 200 Migori Youth with Marketable Skills
The Kenya Youth Employment and Skills (K-YES) programme, implemented by MCYF in partnership with RTI International, has successfully equipped over 200 young people across Migori County with practical vocational skills — opening doors to sustainable livelihoods where few existed before.
Trainees were enrolled in six trades: tailoring and garment making, plumbing, masonry, electrical installation, and agribusiness. The training was delivered over a structured period at community-level sites, reducing the barrier of travel for youth from remote sub-counties.
Beyond Skills — Building Identity
Alongside technical training, K-YES incorporated the My ID My Life campaign, which supported youth in obtaining national identification cards. For many participants — especially young women in rural areas — this was their first legal documentation, unlocking access to banking, mobile money, and government services.
“Before K-YES, I had no ID and no trade. Now I have both,” said one participant from Uriri Sub-County. “I run my own tailoring business and I can open a bank account in my own name.”
What’s Next
MCYF continues to advocate for vocational pathways to be recognised within Migori County’s youth development budget. We are working with county government to link K-YES graduates with enterprise development funds and market linkages.
